The Pink Plumber is always looking for ways to join the fight against breast cancer in our community. We’re excited to join It’s The Journey, Inc. in raising money for breast cancer support at the 2018 Georgia 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer.
What is The Georgia 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer?
The Georgia 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer is a two day walking event dedicated to raising money for breast cancer support for Georgians. The 2-Day walk was started by breast cancer survivor Randi Passoff and her non-profit It’s The Journey, Inc. It’s The Journey, Inc. raises funds for Georgia breast cancer organizations offering support to breast cancer patients across the state. Passoff designed the Walk because she wanted Atlanta to have a breast cancer fundraising event where all the funds raised stayed in the community.
Passoff calls The Georgia 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer the “kinder and gentler breast cancer walk.” Instead of walking 60 miles over three days, 2-Day Walk participants walk 20 miles on Saturday and 10 miles on Sunday. Participants stay at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis, instead of a tent. 2018 will be It’s The Journey’s 16th annual 2-Day Walk. Over the previous 15 walks, participating walking teams raised $14 million dollars to fund 335 grants. All of that grant money stays in Georgia. 2-Day Walk participants have helped pay for breast cancer education, screening, early detection, support services, continuing care, and more.
Why We Want to Participate
At The Pink Plumber, we have always supported the fight against breast cancer–it’s in our name! The pink ribbon The Pink Plumber uses for our logo represents our commitment to supporting the breast cancer fight in our community. The Pink Plumber regularly donates to breast cancer support. So far, we’ve raised almost $200,000 dollars for breast cancer research.
The Georgia 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer is the perfect match for The Pink Plumber! We’re especially happy to support an organization that’s giving back to the Georgia community where we’ve lived and worked for over 50 years. We’ve partnered with the 2-Day Walk every year since 2014, and we couldn’t be more proud to do so again.
How We’re Pitching In
The Pink Plumber will attend the first day of the 2-Day Walk and manage the first of 12 “B’rest Stops.” The B’rest Stops are break areas strategically placed along the walking route. While you’re walking, you can stop by to get a snack, rehydrate, or receive medical attention. You’ll know it’s us because you’ll see The Pink Plumber’s ribbon. Come say hi!
How You Can Get Involved
The 2018 Georgia 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer will happen on September 29 and 30th. You can register as a walker, crew, volunteer, or sponsor over at It’s The Journey’s site.
